Selectivity begins with precision.

Novofrac is developing rock excavation technology with an initial focus on more selective access to narrow-vein and structurally complex deposits.

Explore the challenge

Challenge

The challenge of selective extraction.

In narrow-vein mining, ore and waste rock can lie close together. Keeping them separate during extraction can be difficult.

When waste rock is mined with ore, the result is dilution: more material to handle and process at a lower average grade. This can significantly impact mining economics.

Role

Working toward more selective access.

  1. 01

    Our Aim

Novofrac is developing a targeted rock excavation technology intended to follow ore boundaries more closely, with the goal of reducing dilution and ore loss in narrow-vein and structurally complex deposits.

  2. 02

    Our Position

Novofrac aims to offer a standalone option for selected, dilution-sensitive excavations, and to work alongside conventional drill-and-blast elsewhere in the mine.

  3. 03

    Our Outlook

Novofrac aims to enable electrified, automated mining beyond narrow-vein deposits. Our solution could support remote or automated operation while reducing downstream comminution needs. We look forward to exploring these exciting opportunities through continued R&D.

Evidence

Insights from laboratory research.

Our lab-scale system breaks rock under various controlled conditions tracked with careful instrumentation. It’s one step in a fast-moving process: from specimen-scale trials now, toward an integrated prototype next, and field trials after that. We’re building toward that next chapter already, and we can’t wait to show what it looks like.

Development

Advancing a new approach.

Our R&D efforts have shown the potential of Novofrac's rock excavation approach. Building on this work, the team is working toward an integrated system, with a focus on field implementation.
